North Potomac, MD is Known As the "Suburban" Capital

North Potomac, Maryland is an unincorporated community and census-designated area in Montgomery County, Maryland. It's located close to the Potomac river, less than five miles away from the Potomac, and about twenty miles south of Washington, D.C., at Rockville, Maryland. It has a relatively small population of about 25,000. Its main industries include commercial real estate, government, medical and legal services, pharmaceuticals, insurance, shipping, retail and transportation. This area is considered "suburban" and has a high population density. It's the second-largest city in Montgomery County after Annapolis. Most of its residents live in single-family homes. The downtown area includes the Inner Harbor, which is home to the American Museum of Natural History, the Baltimore Sun Tower and the Howard Theater. The community is also home to the Howard University School of Medicine and the University of Maryland Baltimore. There are also some upscale suburbs, such as Waldorf and Rockville.
